Rethinking how we care for vulnerable children in Honduras
In Honduras, thousands of children have been separated from their families—not always because of death or abandonment, but because of poverty, crisis, or lack of support. And for decades, the default solution has been institutional care: the orphanage.
But what if we’ve been asking the wrong question all along?
At Identity Mission, we’re not building orphanages. We’re building something deeper—hope, healing, and lasting change through family.

A Hidden Truth: Most “Orphans” Have Families
It may surprise you to know that 80% of children in orphanages globally have at least one living parent or relative.
These children aren’t abandoned. Their families are often in crisis—struggling with poverty, illness, or instability—and believe that sending their child to an institution is the only way they can survive.
But losing a parent due to circumstances isn’t the same as losing their love.
Why Family Matters
Children don’t need perfect homes. They need love. They need connection. They need someone to say, “You belong here.”
Research shows that children who grow up in families:
- Develop stronger emotional bonds
- Have better long-term health and academic outcomes
- Are more resilient and capable of building healthy relationships as adults
Family is more than a structure—it’s a foundation for life.

So What Are We Doing About It?
At Identity Mission, we work to build systems of family-based care in Honduras. That means:
1. Preserving Families
We support programs that walk alongside families in crisis—before separation happens.
2. Developing Local Foster Care
We train and equip Honduran families to care for children temporarily, giving them the love and stability they need while long-term solutions are found.
3. Equipping the Church
We partner with local churches to serve vulnerable families in their own communities—and become part of the solution.

Why We Need You
This isn’t just a Honduran issue—it’s a global one. But the solution is deeply local.
We need advocates, donors, volunteers, and prayer partners who believe, like we do, that every child belongs in a loving family.
Whether you give, start a campaign, or simply share this story, you are helping rewrite what it means to care for vulnerable children.
The Answer Has Always Been Family
Orphanages may offer beds, but families offer belonging.
Orphanages may offer meals, but families offer memories.
Orphanages may offer shelter, but families offer a future.
We’re choosing families. Will you?
