Serving the orphan is one of the most fulfilling experiences you can have. As James 1:27 reminds us, caring for orphans and widows is pure religion, keeping us grounded and unpolluted by the world. Some of God’s greatest gifts await when you get involved! Ask the Lord what your calling within this mandate to serve the orphan could be—you might be surprised at how He can use your time and talents for His glory. When we all bring our unique contributions together, we can create an impact that changes lives forever. We can’t all do everything, but we can all do something. We’d love to encourage you and your community to find a way to get involved in the lives of vulnerable children. Below are a few ways you can make a difference for Honduran families in need!

When we spend quiet time with Jesus, our actions gain true power. His wisdom and strength can transform nations, governments, and hearts. The greatest gift you can offer is regular prayer—it's truly impactful. He hears the cries of orphans and is faithful to rescue them in their times of trouble. Let's unite in prayer, asking to be equipped and empowered to serve as His hands and feet. Pray for the Honduran government to support and advance family-based care, reintegration, and adoption, prioritizing families over orphanages. Pray that the local church answers the call to care for orphans, inspiring families to serve as foster parents and mentors.
Pray for the thousands of children in orphanages, that they find belonging and purpose through church-led mentoring and resources like our Identity Curriculum.
Pray that Honduras will gradually deinstitutionalize orphan care in God’s timing, with the church rising as the alternative solution.
Pray for financial partners to support Identity Mission’s efforts and for the staff to have wisdom, grace, and resources to serve the children well.

One of the most impactful ways to support orphan care is by raising awareness about the importance of family-based care and best practices for serving vulnerable children. When a community unites to answer the call to care for orphans (James 1:27), it creates a powerful movement. However, without the right knowledge, even the best intentions can cause harm. That’s why we focus on educating our partners in North America, ensuring that orphan care efforts, both globally and locally, make the greatest possible impact.
This 2-3 session advocacy course covers the basics of orphan care, the family-based care movement, and how it specifically relates to Identity Mission in Honduras. You'll gain the skills needed to advocate for vulnerable kids in your community, on social media, or even in conversations with friends. You can become an advocate for family-based care.

Take the Advocacy Course
Host an Identity Mission representative at your local church or community venue for a meeting with key leaders—such as pastors, community directors, and those passionate about orphan care. Our Regional Orphan Care Awareness meetings bring together these leaders to discuss best practices, ensuring that their efforts help rather than harm vulnerable children.
At these meetings, we emphasize the importance of informed action in orphan care. It’s not enough to see a need and provide material resources; real change requires thoughtful, well-planned programs. An Identity Mission representative will share insights on global orphan care, including in third-world countries, while a local foster care agency will discuss ways to support orphans in your community.
These meetings offer a comprehensive view of the current state of orphan care and empower participants to make a lasting impact. When passionate, like-minded individuals gather to discuss best practices, the potential to transform both local communities and global orphan care is immense.
HOST A REGIONAL ORPHAN CARE AWARENESS MEETING

Each year, we host several short-term teams focused on making a lasting and sustainable impact to improve the lives of vulnerable and orphaned children in Honduras. We welcome teams and will work with you prior to your trip, providing training on best practices for orphan care. Your team will have the opportunity to serve effectively and sustainably, contributing to the expansion of the family-based care movement for orphans and vulnerable children.
Are you passionate about serving in Honduras and curious about joining a team that supports family-based orphan care? We offer long-term volunteer opportunities for individuals 18 and older, covering a variety of skill sets. As a long-term volunteer, you’ll deepen your understanding of the orphan care spectrum, family-based care, and how to best support vulnerable children in Honduras. Your service will play a key role in advancing the mission and impact of Identity Mission.
