At Identity Mission, we believe that children belong in families, and we are dedicated to making this a reality for vulnerable children in Honduras. We focus on providing a loving, family-based care model, a solution that ensures children are not left behind in orphanages but instead are placed in nurturing homes that allow them to thrive. This approach is rooted in our belief in the power of local communities, the Church, and God’s command to care for orphans and widows (James 1:27).

Our Mission in Honduras
Identity Mission’s work in Honduras is deeply connected to the local culture, local churches, and government organizations. Our mission is clear: to transform the lives of children and families through family-based care and family preservation programs. By partnering with churches and local authorities, we help families stay together, prevent child abandonment, and work to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe and supportive family environment.
In Honduras, many children are placed in orphanages due to poverty, neglect, or a lack of resources. The system often leads to isolation from their communities, making it difficult for these children to thrive. Through collaborating with these key stakeholders, we are working to change this narrative.
Family Preservation: Keeping Families Together
One of our key focus areas is family preservation. In many cases, children are at risk of being separated from their families because of economic challenges and/or single parenthood. Identity Mission works directly with these families to provide the support they need to stay together.
For example, in one of our recent initiatives, we helped a single mother, Delmi, who had lost her job due to a back injury. Delmi was struggling to provide for her and her special needs daughter. With the help of Identity Mission, we connected Delmi with our social worker, who developed a plan that allowed her to start a business from home. This business not only provided her with a sustainable income but also allowed her to care for her daughter, keeping the family intact, and preventing her from having to make the difficult decision that many families make of placing their children in an orphanage so that they can have food and shelter.

Through this program, we are reaching families in need, offering practical solutions that prevent child separation and promote family stability. Our commitment to family preservation is grounded in the belief that a child’s biological family, if safe, is the best place for every child.
