Sometimes, the most powerful lessons about foster care come from the hearts of children.
During our annual Identify Hope celebration, Belany, the daughter of one of our foster families, shared a poem she wrote for the foster brothers and sisters who had once been part of her home.
Although these children are no longer living with her family, they will always hold a special place in her heart. Through her words, Belany reminds us that foster care is about more than opening a home—it is about opening your heart.
For biological children in foster families, welcoming new brothers and sisters often means sharing their space, their parents, their routines, and ultimately learning to say goodbye. It is a journey filled with love, compassion, sacrifice, and faith.
Belany’s poem beautifully captures that experience.

A Home Filled with Love
By Belany
There are homes filled with laughter and love,
where warm embraces are never missing.
Where a mother cares with endless tenderness
and a father offers wisdom that strengthens the heart.
How beautiful it is to grow up feeling loved,
to always have a family by your side.
To hear “I love you” at the start of each day
and know someone will be there as you grow.
But not every child has that blessing.
Some are still waiting for love and understanding.
That is why God calls us to share
the love we have first received.
Because a child needs more than a house.
A child needs someone who will hold them close.
And those who love with sincerity and faith
are also serving God,
because He sees every act of love.
Here’s the spanish version of it:

At Identity Mission, we believe foster care changes lives—not only for the children who are welcomed into a family, but also for every member of that family.
Belany’s words remind us that love does not end when a child leaves a foster home. The relationships built, the memories shared, and the compassion learned continue to shape hearts for years to come.
We are grateful to Belany for allowing us to share her beautiful reflection and for reminding us that every act of love echoes far beyond the moment.
