At Identity Mission, we believe education has the power to do more than improve grades. When children are given the opportunity to learn, families are strengthened, relationships grow deeper, and communities begin to change.
Over the past several months, our team has been working behind the scenes to strengthen Aula Plus in ways that will create long-term impact for the children and families we serve.
As the program continues to grow, we’ve been developing new systems, clearer processes, and a stronger educational structure so that every child receives consistent, intentional support—regardless of which volunteers are serving at any given time.
While volunteers remain an essential part of Aula Plus, we recognize that lasting impact requires more than good intentions. It requires organization, consistency, and a clear vision that allows every volunteer to build upon the work of those who served before them.
Our desire is simple:
No matter who comes or goes, every child who walks through the doors of Aula Plus should experience the same quality of care, encouragement, and educational support.
Soon, we’ll be sharing a special interview with Keyrin , one of our social workers, who will take a deeper look into the vision behind Aula Plus, why it exists, and how we hope it continues serving families in the future.
But today, we’d like to share one moment that reminded us why this program matters so much.
One Reading Lesson… Two Lives Changed
One of the families participating in Aula Plus is led by a single mother raising two daughters.
She never had the opportunity to learn how to read or write.
Like many parents, she dreams of giving her daughters opportunities she never had herself.
Even when life has been difficult, she continues showing up.
She brings her daughters to Aula Plus.
She encourages them to learn.
She celebrates every small victory.
Throughout this year, our team has witnessed tremendous growth in both girls. Week after week, they’ve gained confidence in reading, writing, and mathematics through the consistent support of volunteers, staff, and donors who make Aula Plus possible.
Then, one afternoon during reading time, something happened that brought tears to our eyes.
The older daughter sat beside her mother…
…and began teaching her how to read.
The child who had come to Aula Plus to learn was now sharing that gift with the person she loves most.
In that quiet moment, we were reminded that education doesn’t stop with one child.
It reaches entire families.
The Ripple Effect of Education
Moments like these remind us that the impact of Aula Plus goes far beyond homework help.
When a child learns to read…
A younger sibling is encouraged.
A parent gains confidence.
A family grows closer.
A community becomes stronger.
Education creates opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.
Sometimes those opportunities look like improved grades.
Sometimes they look like greater confidence.
And sometimes they look like a daughter patiently helping her mother read words she had never been taught before.
A Reflection from Our Team
This year, Dayana, a member of Identity Mission’s staff who serves in communications and supports several internal ministry initiatives, made the decision to consistently volunteer with Aula Plus.
After witnessing this moment between the mother and daughter, she shared:
“Since I first learned about Identity Mission, my heart has always wanted to contribute in some way to my country. When my coworker Keyrin invited me to help with Aula Plus, I accepted with so much joy.
That day, I remember arriving tired after a long day. This family always welcomes me with so much love. The girls usually look for me to help them practice math, reading, and writing.
While we were helping the children finish their assignments, my coworker and I noticed something happening nearby. The older daughter was teaching her mom how to read.
I couldn’t hold back my tears.
It reminded me that every act of generosity matters, no matter what it looks like. Whether someone gives their time, donates financially, uses their professional skills, prays, or simply shares our mission with others, every contribution creates an impact much greater than we often realize.
This wasn’t just about teaching a child how to read. It was about bringing a family closer together. It was about strengthening relationships and creating opportunities that will continue long after that afternoon.
I love being part of Aula Plus, and I love being part of Identity Mission. Seeing our donors, volunteers, churches, and supporters come together to invest in families reminds me that we’re not simply changing one child’s future—we’re helping strengthen Honduras, one family at a time.”
Looking Ahead
As Aula Plus continues to grow, so does our vision.
One of our greatest hopes is that, through the success of our upcoming End-of-Year Campaign, we’ll be able to hire an additional social worker.
Why is that important?
Because it will allow us to expand the support we provide beyond academic tutoring.
Some of the families connected to Aula Plus could then receive more comprehensive care through our Family Preservation Program, including social work, counseling, parenting support, and individualized family care.
We don’t simply want children to succeed in school.
We want families to thrive together.
